Mortgage Underwriter: St Cloud, FL


SIGN ON BONUS AVAILABLE! Northpoint Mortgage is a growing mortgage lender seeking to add an experienced underwriter to our team. We offer a competitive salary, benefits and a great working atmosphere. You will have the option to work from home. ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform mortgage credit analysis, with or without the assistance of an automated underwriting system to determine Borrowers’ willingness and ability to repay the mortgage debt.
  • Validate loan applications and supporting documentation, verifying that the system of record reflects correct information. Update system of record when required.
  • Review and validate income, asset, credit, title, value, and fraud reports.
  • Ensure all required property information is in LOS? system.
  • Review title information and purchase contract, if applicable.
  • Run and review quality control tools such as Fraud Reports and Early Check.
  • Order and review Mortgage Insurance based on loan program. Ensure that system of record matches MI certificate.
  • Approve/deny loans and update the LOS? system accordingly.
  • Assist in resolving branch post-closing suspense issues.
  • Must be able to evaluate and analyze complex income tax returns to establish qualifying income.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent Underwriting experience in the mortgage industry is essential
  • Experience with (AUS) automated underwriting systems- DU, LPA, and GUS
  • Strong working knowledge of loan program products, services and policies
  • Thorough grasp of state and federal regulations and solid understanding of: HMDA, Regulation Z, Regulation B; the FHLMC, FNMA, USDA, VA, and FHA rules and processes
  • Experience with Loan Origination Systems such as Encompass
  • Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Internet Browsers
  • Genuine commitment to customer service
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work in both a team and individual environment

  • Communicate with real estate agents on a regular basis throughout the loan process, advising them of loan status and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Following up on necessary documents and setting deadlines to create urgency to advance files quickly through the process.
  • Put clients at ease by establishing availability and answering questions
  • Reviewing the details and terms of the clients loan throughout the process to ensure they are comfortable and happy with the setup of their financing.
SKILLS NEEDED:
  • Familiarity with mortgage industry basics:
    - Conventional, FHA, USDA, VA
    - Income Calculations
    - How to run AUS and read findings
  • Ability to review guidelines and figure out answers to scenarios
